Luigi Lombardi d’Aquino is a composer, arranger, and conductor. He graduated in Composition and Conducting with Edgar Alandia, Massimo Pradella, and Rino Marrone at the Conservatorio N. Piccinni in Bari and the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. He furthered his studies with Azio Corghi, earning a diploma in Composition from the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome and the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.

He has been invited to collaborate as a composer and conductor with major concert institutions in Rome and across Italy. In 2001, he won the Progetto Giovani Compositori Competition of the Guido Cantelli Orchestra Foundation in Milan, and in 2002, he won the Valentino Bucchi International Composition Competition in Rome. In the same year, he received an Honorable Mention at the Egidio Carella International Composition Competition in Val Tidone.

Between 2002 and 2008, Lombardi d’Aquino collaborated as an arranger and conductor with renowned Italian artists such as Cecilia Gasdia, Ivana Spagna, Guido De Angelis, Iva Zanicchi, Ornella Vanoni, Claudio Baglioni, and Andrea Bocelli, conducting the Millenium Orchestra, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra of Prague, and the Roma Sinfonietta.

For Andrea Bocelli, he conducted a unique version of the traditional Neapolitan song "Era de maggio," re-arranged into a love duet by Gianfranco Lombardi, included in the CD Incanto, recorded with the Orchestra Verdi of Milan.

Simultaneously, he worked in theater and television as a composer, arranger, audio-MIDI programmer, and conductor. He wrote and produced the music for Rumors, Neil Simon's comedy at the Teatro Eliseo in Rome. In 2002, he co-authored the arrangements for the RAI television show Carramba che sorpresa with Raffaella Carrà. He also arranged and orchestrated for RAI’s TELETHON 2003 and 2004 fundraising marathons with Milly Carlucci, and was responsible for orchestrations and arrangements for the 2005-2006 editions of Domenica in….

He wrote and arranged the music for the 2009 RAI TV show Ciak si Canta with Eleonora Daniele, and in 2004, he was entrusted with the Musical Direction of the 1st May 2004 concert by David Zard.

In 2005, he began his collaboration with film and television, including the music programming for Marco Frisina's score for the RAI series Edda by Giorgio Capitani, and orchestrating the opening theme of the TV series Incantesimo with music by Guido and Maurizio De Angelis.

For the Mediaset series Dottor Clown by Maurizio Nichetti, he provided orchestrations and conducted the music by Maurizio De Angelis. For cinema, he conducted the film score for Come le formiche (2007) by Ilaria Borrelli with music by Guido Freddi. He also contributed to the soundtrack of the film Io, Don Giovanni (2009) by Carlos Saura, which featured photography by Vittorio Storaro, and was showcased at the Toronto Film Festival and as a special event at the Rome Film Festival.

In 2010, he orchestrated and conducted Maurizio De Angelis' music for the RAI TV series Gli ultimi del paradiso by Luciano Manuzzi, performed by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra of Prague. The following year, he did the same for Baciati dall’amore (Mediaset, 2011) by Claudio Norza, and orchestrated and conducted for the RAI miniseries Il Generale Della Rovere by Carlo Carlei, with a score by Maurizio De Angelis.

Lombardi d'Aquino's music was chosen for the TV campaign to support fundraising for the "Grande Casa di Peter Pan" in Rome, in partnership with FOX4DEV (FOX for development).

From June 2011, he worked as assistant to Franco Piersanti for the Concerto Moretti, a musical performance featuring the works of Piersanti and Nicola Piovani, celebrating Nanni Moretti’s films. After premiering in Rome at the Parco della Musica, the concert toured in Paris, Rome, Bari, and Bologna.

As assistant to Piersanti, he also worked on the music for Des Soucis et Des Hommes (France 2) and Romanzo di una strage (Marco Tullio Giordana), both featuring scores by Franco Piersanti.

In January 2012, he conducted Andrea Guerra’s music for the RAI TV series Il Giovane Montalbano with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra. The same year, he composed and produced the music for the short film BIOS by Grazia Tricarico, in collaboration with the Experimental Cinematography Center in Rome.

Lombardi d'Aquino also took on the conducting role for the Concerto Moretti with the Orchestra Regionale Toscana and Nicola Piovani on piano, held at the Teatro Verdi in Florence in February 2013.

He collaborated with Franco Piersanti on the soundtracks for Anni Felici (2013, Daniele Luchetti) and L’intrepido (2013, Gianni Amelio), both of which were showcased at major film festivals.

In 2014, he was entrusted by Nicola Piovani with the musical direction and live performance of the music for La Dodicesima Notte by Shakespeare, directed by Carlo Cecchi, a production that toured Italian theaters until 2016.

From 2015 to 2017, Lombardi d'Aquino continued to collaborate with Franco Piersanti on various projects, including the RAI fiction series Lea, the film La stoffa dei sogni, and La Tenerezza by Gianni Amelio.

In September 2017, he performed as a keyboardist and guitarist in Viaggi di Ulisse, a concert by Nicola Piovani, combining mythological themes with recorded voices.

In November 2017, he conducted the orchestra for Oliver Onions’ tribute concert at the Papp László Sportaréna in Budapest, celebrating their iconic soundtracks from the 1970s and 1980s.

In 2018, Lombardi d'Aquino released four monographic EPs of his own compositions, including Lascia le mie partiture, Musique contemporaine, Caronte, and Tra le storie. He was responsible for composition, audio/MIDI programming, and orchestration for all the tracks.

In 2019, he led a masterclass on music applied to images at the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado in Milan.

In 2021, he composed and orchestrated the music for the Mediaset TV series Svegliati amore mio, directed by Ricky Tognazzi, with music by Maurizio De Angelis. He also composed music for the Giorgio Armani Crossroads project, which explored themes of elegance, femininity, and empowerment through the stories of extraordinary women from around the world.

He is a Conservatory Teacher of Harmony, Composition and pop arrangiament.
